APRIL 11, 2012 – Charles M. (Chip) English, an attorney with extensive experience representing businesses and trade associations before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has joined the Washington, D.C., office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP as a partner.

English concentrates his practice on challenging and defending federal and state regulatory decisions affecting the food and beverage industry. He has obtained numerous favorable rulings for his clients before the FDA, USDA, and other state and federal agencies.

"One of the strengths of DWT’s food and beverage team is our ability to advise our clients in all substantive areas," said Jesse Lyon, coordinating chair of the food and agriculture practice at DWT. "By adding a litigator who is well-versed in administrative law matters, we can deliver a full, cross-practice approach for our clients."

English is well-versed in a multitude of agricultural regulatory programs and has 15 years of experience with organic farming and processing. He also provides clients with legislative and lobbying support.

"Chip’s skills in the agricultural arena will be of great value to our restaurant clients who face similar concerns," said Lyon. English was introduced at DWT’s recent national restaurant industry conference, Food Times at Restaurant High.

"Being a part of the dynamic team at DWT is a great next step for my practice," said English. "I’m pleased to bring my experience to a firm where there’s so much energy and growth in the food and beverage group."

English previously spent 19 years at Ober|Kaler and eight years at Thelen LLP. He received his B.S. and J.D. from the University of Virginia.
