| Members of our energy group provide a full range of transactional, regulatory and litigation services to a wide variety of entities in the electric power and natural gas industries. In the electric power sector, we represent independent power producers, investor-owned utilities, energy marketers, municipal utilities and electric cooperatives in project development, energy trading and other transactions, federal and state regulatory matters, and litigation. We also represent owners of hydroelectric facilities in connection with hydroelectric licensing and compliance matters. In the natural gas sector we represent electric generators, industrials, local distribution companies, municipal and investor-owned utilities, investors and energy marketers on natural gas transactions, regulatory matters and litigation.
Our national energy practice features lawyers who have have held senior positions at major U.S. investor-owned utilities, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the California Public Utilities Commission, and served as senior counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

Selected Experience White Creek Project LLC Represented White Creek Project LLC as project counsel in connection with the development, sale and construction financing for the 205 MW White Creek Wind Generating Project located in Klickitat County, Wash. Newberry Geothermal Representing project developer in the development and sale of power from a 120 MW geothermal project located near Bend, Ore. (Ongoing) Harvest Wind Project Representing the members of the Harvest Wind Project as project counsel in connection with the development and financing of a 99 MW wind generating project located in Klickitat County, Wash. Chelan County P.U.D. (Wash.) Counsel for hydroelectric licensee in Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation v. Ecology (trial before the Washington State Pollution Control Hearings Board, holding that Section 401 of the Clean Water Act does not require strict adherence with numeric water quality criteria). (2004) Avista Corporation Representation throughout the acquisition and development of a 280MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Boardman, Ore. (2003) Algonquin Power Income Fund and Emera Incorporated Formed California Pacific Electric Company, LLC ("CalPeco") for purposes of acquiring the California electric utility assets (Lake Tahoe area) operated by Sierra Pacific Power Company. Lead attorney for CalPeco in negotiating asset purchase, power purchase and other key transaction documents. (Ongoing) Calpine Corporation Representation of various qualifying facilities and other generators owned by Calpine Corporation in regulatory proceedings, commercial negotiations and disputes. Representation includes providing regulatory opinions on over a billion dollars' worth of project financings. (Ongoing) Electric generator Representation before FERC of a major electric generator on gas quality and interchangeability issues associated with a new LNG import terminal which will provide gas service to the Northeastern United States.
