MAY 9, 2012 — Kelli L. Sager, a partner in the Los Angeles office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, has been named one of California’s top 100 female lawyers by a leading legal publication, the Daily Journal. This is the seventh consecutive year that Sager has been included in the Daily Journal’s list.

Winners were chosen based on work that influences the legal field and the larger community. Sager’s work to obtain Legislature budget records and information about the use of lethal force by police for the Los Angeles Times was noted by the publication.

In a ground-breaking decision in early 2012, the California Court of Appeal rejected arguments raised by the city of Long Beach and its police union that the names of police officers who exercise lethal force are protected from disclosure. Kelli argued, and the Court of Appeal held, that there was a strong public interest in identifying the officers.  The California Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case.

Sager has more than 26 years of litigation experience representing television and radio broadcasters, cable companies, motion picture producers and distributors, newspapers and magazines, book authors, Internet companies, and Web publishers, both at the trial and appellate level of federal and state courts. Her practice encompasses all areas of media and entertainment litigation, including defamation, privacy, idea submission claims, access, prior restraint, reporter's shield laws, copyright and trademark law, and Internet law.
