DECEMBER 15, 2015 – Seeing the need for a clear, engaging, step-by-step guide to IP protection for entrepreneurs and inventors, Dylan Adams, a patent lawyer at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, has authored Patents Demystified, published by the American Bar Association and now available for sale through Amazon.com and other retailers.

"For many startups, 80%-90% of their value is in their intellectual property, but there’s very little good info out there about how protect it," says Adams. "I wanted to produce a guide that enables executives at emerging companies to maximize patent protection on any budget—and to be entertained along the way."

Patents Demystified takes a comprehensive, plain-English approach to its subject, walking readers through the entire patent process, pointing out pitfalls, giving fun historical examples, and advising on how to develop a productive working relationship with a patent lawyer. While there are many books purporting to instruct inventors on how to take a do-it-yourself route to patents, Adams strongly advises against this, noting that it often ends up providing illusory protection.

Adams maintains an informative blog about the patent world at http://www.patentsdemystified.com/blog/. His book has already been touted as a "Hot New Release" in Patent Law on Amazon.com and been excerpted on GeekWire, the leading news site for the high-tech and startup industry in the Seattle area.

Adams has a master’s in electrical engineering and a bachelor’s in biochemistry. He was formerly the head of patent prosecution in the Seattle office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
