Keith Betzina focuses on matters relating to employee benefits. A substantial amount of his practice is devoted to issues concerning employee pension and welfare benefit plans subject to ERISA, including a wide variety of design and compliance issues involving virtually every conceivable type of plan.
Keith counsels clients on ERISA fiduciary duty and prohibited transaction issues that arise in connection with creating and operating ERISA plans, and the use of VCOC and REOC investment vehicles. He has prepared, and successfully negotiated significant ERISA-prohibited transaction exemptions with the Department of Labor and has also requested advisory opinions from the department on incentive compensation arrangements for investment advisors of pension plans. Keith also provides support to firm litigators engaged in ERISA cases, including active participation in pension benefit claims at the federal appeals and Supreme Court levels.
