SEATTLE, SEPT. 17, 2012 – Richard (Rich) Birmingham, a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, a national distinction reserved for experienced lawyers who’ve provided exceptionally high-quality professional services to clients, the bar, and the public.

Birmingham was honored at the College’s thirteenth annual Induction Dinner in Boston this weekend.

Fellows are selected "based on their significant contributions to the advancement of the employee benefits field," according to the College. Fellows are required to have "demonstrated a sustained commitment to public awareness and understanding of benefits laws" over the course of their careers. This year’s 21 inductees join over 375 current Fellows of the organization.

Birmingham has three decades of experience in both employee benefits counseling and ERISA litigation. A frequent speaker at employee benefits conferences and regular author of employee benefits advisories, he was named "2012 Lawyer of the Year" in the Seattle area in employee benefits law by Woodward/White’s "Best Lawyers in America."

The non-profit American College of Employee Benefits Counsel seeks to recognize employee benefits attorneys who have dedicated their careers to the field and demonstrated leadership, character, ability and professional responsibility. Fellows of the College encompass all aspects of employee benefits law and all types of clients including employers, unions, plans, plan participants, and each of the government agencies that have a major role in regulating employee benefit plans.
