As chair of Davis Wright Tremaine's Pro Bono and Public Service Committee, I am honored to oversee the firm's pro bono program—and to present the highlights of our efforts. This report introduces several of the attorneys in our eight U.S. offices who are doing particularly compelling pro bono work in arenas from family law to advocacy for efficient legal services programs. We have also included the details of some of our more interesting cases, and proud descriptions of our lawyers and staff who have won awards for their pro bono work. |

DWT's commitment to the ideals of equitable treatment and accessibility of legal services for all drives our pro bono program. We have a full-time pro bono coordinator, and we award billable hour credit to our lawyers for time spent on legal services to people and organizations of limited means and legal matters involving protection of civil and public rights. The firm has received numerous awards for pro bono work, including, most recently, Chris Helm and the firm were recipients of the Washington Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association 2007 Pro Bono Award, and Bob Newell was honored by the Oregon State Bar as recipient of the 2006 Oregon State Bar President's Public Service Award, for his work for Mercy Corp as well as his other community and legal involvements.
