Dennis M. Paterson, III is a partner in the Portland, Oregon office of
Davis Wright Tremaine. Since 1982, his practice has focused on protecting
creditor's rights and handling real estate transactions. Formerly a district
manager and operations director for two large corporations, Mr. Paterson is
familiar with the regulations facing financial institutions, lenders, buyers
and sellers in real estate transactions, and the laws and regulations
regarding consumer loans. Mr. Paterson is a frequent speaker on creditor's
rights and real property. He is the co-author of the Oregon State Bar Real
Estate Continuing Legal Education's chapter on "Financial Institution's
Regulations" and a co-author of a chapter entitled "Commercial, Consumer,
and Debtor-Creditor Law" in the Oregon State Bar's 1989 Legislative Update.
Mr. Paterson has handled numerous commercial loan workouts for financial
institutions. In addition, Mr. Paterson has litigated numerous cases both in
State Court and Bankruptcy Court. Mr. Paterson has established bankruptcy
procedures, collection practices, and small claims procedures for financial
institutions and corporate clients.
Mr. Paterson is admitted to practice in all Oregon State courts and before
the Federal District Court of Oregon and the Ninth Circuit. He formerly
served on the executive board and is a former newsletter editor of the
Oregon State Bar Association Debtor-Creditor Section. He is also a past
chairman for the Legislative Subcommittee of that section. Mr. Paterson
graduated from Lewis and Clark's Northwestern Law School in 1982.
