Representative Experience
An experienced litigator, Mr. Vick’s practice focuses on complex business litigation matters and represents a diverse array of media clients, including motion picture production companies and studios, newspaper and magazine publishers, and television producers. His trial experience has included:

• Represented a motion picture production company in its successful breach of contract suit against an author arising out of a motion picture adapted from the author’s book; after a 15-week trial, the jury rejected all of the author’s claims and awarded the production company $5 million on its breach of contract claim
• Successfully defended a major entertainment company against a lawsuit related to the intellectual property and merchandising rights in a well-known children’s character; as a result of the bench trial, defendant succeeded in obtaining terminating sanctions and the opposing party’s lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice

In addition to his trial work, Kevin’s experience includes:

• Defended a professional journalism review against a defamation lawsuit, by assisting in drafting a successful anti-SLAPP motion, which resulted in one of the largest anti-SLAPP attorneys’ fees awards in California history
• Defended a major entertainment company in a lawsuit of first impression concerning the copyright termination provisions of the Copyright Act
• Defended a federal appellate court nominee against a defamation lawsuit arising out of his nomination and prior high-profile litigation
• Defended a major motion picture studio in an idea submission lawsuit arising out of a motion picture
• Provided pre-publication review for entertainment and media companies
• Represented a dozen families in a pro bono matter arising out of their children’s exposure to lead paint
