Jay D. Hull

Chief Innovation Partner

Jay leads the firm’s innovation initiative, DWT De Novo. As Chief Innovation Partner, his focus is on deploying people, processes, and technologies that help us do our work more efficiently and at less cost to clients, and in ways that create greater value for our clients. Having served as in-house counsel for many years, Jay understands the pressures faced by in-house legal teams. It’s with this understanding and his many years practicing as a business transactions lawyer in the technology field that Jay looks for creative solutions to clients’ business and legal challenges.

He has negotiated deals worth more than $5 billion in recent years, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and commercial agreements, with particular focus on telecommunications and technology transactions. Jay also acts as outside general counsel for businesses in Oregon. He served for more than five years as assistant general counsel for a publicly traded CLEC, where he had broad responsibility for commercial and operational matters.

Commercial agreements for multiple clients including Clearwire, XO, LCW, Bend Broadband, and Microsoft

Negotiating commercial agreements for establishing telecommunications networks, and the purchase and sale of telecommunications services.

Outside general counsel for Life Flight Network

Outside general counsel for air medical transport services provider.

Outside general counsel for PBS Engineering

Outside general counsel for engineering and environmental consulting firm.


Recapitalization of travel business, including negotiation of investment documents and renegotiation of commercial agreements in 2014.

Technology transactions for wireless telecommunications companies

Negotiated technology development agreements with a value in excess of $2 billion.


Completed multiple practice acquisitions for accounting firm in 2013 and 2014.

AVB (Dave's Killer Bread)

Represented client in a large investment from the Goode Partners private equity firm.

Distributed antenna systems

Negotiated agreements for installation and operation of indoor and outdoor DAS systems in shopping malls, sports venues and other locations.

Internet of Things – connected devices

Negotiated agreements for residential and commercial use of connected devices, including back-office support for provisioning and billing.
