Maya Yamazaki focuses her practice on intellectual property, media and technology law for clients ranging from start-ups and emerging companies to global corporations. Her practice includes the structuring, drafting, and negotiation of information technology and digital media transactions. She also counsels clients on a range of issues including advertising, marketing, and promotional matters. Maya also has experience litigating copyright, patent, trade secret, and trademark cases in federal court and before federal agencies.

  • Structures and drafts digital media and technology contracts such as music licensing agreements, software licenses, joint development agreements, hosted services agreements and consulting agreements
  • Advises clients on various intellectual property matters including enforcement of trademarks and copyrights, DMCA compliance, and pre-publication review of traditional and digital content
  • Structures and drafts advertising and marketing agreements including celebrity talent agreements, co-promotion and sponsorship agreements, and contest rules
  • Drafts website terms of use and privacy policies
  • Counsels clients on social media matters including compliance with applicable FTC and COPPA regulations
  • Experience in matters related to video and mobile games including structuring and drafting digital content license agreements, app development agreement, and advertising and promotions

Acquisition of MarketingPilot Software LLC by Microsoft

Represented Microsoft in the acquisition of MarketingPilot Software, LLC, maker of automated marketing campaign software. (2012)

Illinois Tool Works, Inc. et al. v. Seattle Safety, LLC

Represented crash sled patent holder in a patent infringement, breach of contract, and unfair competition litigation against former contractor. Won partial summary judgment of infringement; case settled four days before trial. (W.D. Wash. 2011)

United States Playing Card Co. v. Angel Playing Cards Co., Ltd

Represented the leading manufacturer of playing cards in eight consolidated trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings in the United States, Canada and Singapore challenging card back designs used by a competitor, Angel Playing Cards, and defending against a cancellation counterclaim. Case successfully settled. (2009-2011)
