Bob Schuchard concentrates his practice primarily in the health care industry, advising clients on general business, mergers and acquisitions, governance and board relations, joint ventures, contracts, and financing matters. His extensive experience includes many high-profile health care merger and affiliation transactions. Bob also draws on his diverse transactional and commercial practice to advise clients in other industries, including education, insurance, trade associations, social service organizations and equipment maintenance.

Advising clients in the purchase and sale of businesses, mergers and management agreements, corporate governance and executive compensation in diverse industries, including manufacturing, service, insurance and health care
Advising numerous hospitals, health care systems and physician groups in general corporate, governance, corporate structure, contracts with top executives, commercial and health care matters
Representing clients before the charitable trust division of the California Attorney General’s office
General corporate and commercial matters, including loan transactions, corporate structure, negotiating agreements for equipment and real property sales and leases, commercial joint ventures and structuring and negotiating general and limited partnerships and limited liability companies
Advising nonprofit health care facilities and systems and other charitable organizations, with particular focus on the corporate, fiduciary duty, tax and charitable trust issues facing such organizations

Represented Providence Health System affiliates in acquisition of three imaging centers located in Alaska. (2011)
Restructuring for Regional Catholic Health Care System
Restructuring of the governance, charter documents and governance policies for a newly formed regional four-hospital Catholic health care system. (2010)
Tax-exempt equipment financing for Citrus Valley Health Partners
Represented health system in tax-exempt equipment financing issued by the California Health Facilities Financing Authority. (2010).
Tax-exempt financing for Verdugo Hills Hospital
Represented Verdugo Hills Hospital in the issuance of City of Glendale, health facilities revenue notes (2005). Represented hospital in refinancing this transaction to replace an institutional lender with a private party (2009). Represented hospital in restructuring this tax exempt financing (2010).
Affiliation of community hospital for Providence Health System
Represented of Providence Health System, Oregon in its affiliation of Willamette Falls Hospital, a general acute care hospital located in Oregon City, Ore. This transaction required a full public hearing before the Oregon Attorney General. (2009)
Acquisition of regional medical center for Providence Health System
Represented Providence Health System, Southern California in its acquisition of Tarzana Regional Medical Center, a general acute care hospital located in Tarzana, Calif., from affiliates of Tenet Healthcare. This transaction was unusual in that the real estate was acquired from a ground lessor (which ground leased the hospital property to Tenet) and the hospital business from Tenet. (2008)
Transition loans for Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula
Structured and documented two loans given to a nonprofit hospital, and negotiated their terms with the borrower's primary creditor. (2008)
Financing for Huntington Memorial Hospital*
Represented hospital in the issuance of California Statewide Communities Development Authority Revenue Bonds (Huntington Memorial Hospital), Series 2005. (2005)
Affiliation for Good Samaritan Community Healthcare*
Represented client in its affiliation with (and transfer of control to) MultiCare Health System. Transaction was the affiliation of a nonprofit regional acute care medical center with a nonprofit regional health care system.
Business formation for Methodist Hospital of Southern California*
Represented client in its affiliation with Huntington Memorial Hospital to form Southern California Health Systems.
Health System affiliation for Little Company of Mary Health Services and Providence Health System California*
Transaction counsel in affiliation with Providence Health System.
Merger of health providers*
Represented Portals, a nonprofit mental health provider in Los Angeles California, in its merger with Pacific Clinics. The combined entity now has more than 80 service locations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties and is one of the largest private non-profit outpatient behavioral healthcare agencies in the West.
Merger of health providers for Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center*
Represented client in a five-party merger to form Catholic Healthcare West Southern California.
Sale of business for USC/Norris Cancer Hospital*
Represented client in sale to Tenet Healthcare.
