Brian Bentcover represents start-up, emerging, and established companies in the technology, digital media, and entertainment industries. He is an experienced technology attorney with a long tenure of providing front-line legal & regulatory support for business organizations ranging from start-up ventures to established global businesses with billions of dollars of annual revenues and profitability. Brian has extensive experience providing broad-based, pragmatic, business-oriented, front-line legal and regulatory support for business organizations responsible for development, marketing, and distribution of business and consumer-oriented software, web-based services, digital media, social media and hardware technologies.

Most recently, Brian spent more than 11 years with Microsoft where he served as an Associate General Counsel providing and leading legal and regulatory support for a wide variety of Microsoft business organizations, including the organizations responsible for Microsoft’s Office, Exchange, SharePoint, Hotmail, Messenger, and Zune business lines, and Microsoft’s Media & Entertainment Group, the organization responsible for the company’s digital media film, television and music content acquisition and distribution efforts.

Practice Highlights

• Drafting and negotiating technology transactions, including development, licensing, marketing and distribution agreements, and agreements related to the customization, integration, and maintenance of software and related technologies, and preparing related documentation and other items of relevance to the technology space
• Providing counsel and guidance on the entire spectrum of product and service development, marketing, and distribution issues that arise during the lifeline of a technology-oriented product or service (i.e., ideation, implementation, distribution, marketing, and market withdrawal)
• Serving in an outside general counsel capacity, from development of base legal infrastructure to the ongoing provision of legal services, for entities in need of general counsel resources as a result of the absence or insufficient capacity of existing in-house legal resources
• Supporting other firm lawyers on technology-related issues arising in matters with gravity in another legal practice, e.g., merger & acquisitions, litigation, etc.
