Managed Care
The Health Law Group represents a variety of managed care organizations (MCOs).
Such organizations include partially and fully integrated physician
organizations, physician-hospital organizations, provider networks
and third party administrators, all of which engage in managed care
contracting or the administration of such contracts. The primary
thrust in the development of these managed care organizations is
the affiliation of otherwise independent professionals and organizations
in order to accept, allocate and manage economic risk. This partial
integration of independent competitors implicates a wide range of
otherwise unrelated bodies of law, including the antitrust laws,
ERISA and employee benefit plan regulation, state laws prohibiting
the corporate practice of medicine, state and federal taxation,
state and federal health insurance and HMO regulation.
