Introduction

Davis Wright Tremaine offers one of the most comprehensive litigation resources in the nation. As our largest practice, it embraces virtually every subject matter area, including business torts, unfair competition, antitrust, patent, trademark, trade secrets and intellectual property, employment, health care, toxic torts, energy distribution, software design, environmental, First Amendment, defamation, securities fraud, professional malpractice, partnership disputes, trust and estate disputes, construction litigation and government contracts.

Our lawyers have prosecuted and defended large class action litigation, including the successful representation of plaintiffs in the Exxon Valdez oil spill, that resulted in the largest punitive damages verdict ever assessed by a jury. We also represented Columbia Pictures in a copyright infringement case that resulted in the largest statutory damage award ever granted by a jury.

It is always our objective to help clients solve problems as quickly and economically as possible and often recommend alternative dispute resolution procedures. We regularly handle cases in mediation and arbitration, and DWT litigators are also asked from time to time to serve as mediators and arbitrators.

MarketWatch, 9/21/07

Partner Victor Kovner, Chair of the judicial reform and pro-appointment organization, the Fund For Modern Courts, writes that in New York State, judicial independence has been “seriously compromised” due to low judicial compensation and the “crisis” of a “scripted” and “unaccountable” process of statutorily-mandated judicial nominating conventions.
