Working within the rules for foreign law firms in China, our firm has provided a wide range of legal services to our clients that have allowed them to successfully accomplish their business objectives. (Chinese law prohibits any foreign law firm, including DWT, from practicing Chinese law. For example, foreign law firms cannot appear in Chinese court proceedings or issue formal legal opinions on Chinese law.)

Our China Practice Group has handled all or a significant part of the legal work required by many transactions or disputes in China. Our work has included structuring, negotiating and documenting strategic alliances, mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures in various sectors of the Chinese economy. These projects are located not only in the Shanghai area, but also in other parts of China.

After completion of the establishment phase, we have been actively involved in implementing joint ventures through participation in board meetings and preparation of board resolutions, leases, employment agreements, land-use contracts, marketing agreements, property management agreements and financing documents. We also have extensive experience in multi-national merger and acquisition transactions. While not authorized to appear in Chinese courts as foreign lawyers, the lawyers in our China Practice Group have assisted clients in resolving a variety of trade and investment disputes.
