Wind

Wind power capacity across the globe has more than doubled since 2006. The United States has been a leader in this international effort, adding more than 10,000 MW of wind generation capacity to its grid in 2009, representing a 26 percent growth rate over 2008 levels. Our energy team has been at the forefront of this massive shift towards wind energy and other new forms of renewable electricity generation.

Members of our energy practice have been involved in the development and financing of numerous wind power projects and have assisted clients in every stage of wind project development, including:

  • Transaction structuring to utilize available federal and state tax incentives
  • Advising on the acquisition and divestiture of project assets
  • Negotiating power purchase agreements, transmission agreements, interconnection agreements and sales of environmental attributes
  • Negotiating wind leases, easements and other real estate documents
  • Negotiating turbine supply contracts, balance of plant construction contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, and turbine service contracts
  • Negotiating loan and security documents
  • Advising on federal and state energy regulatory matters
  • Advising on environmental permitting, compliance and land use matters
