Represented Obie Industries in the formation of a joint venture to raise equity for development of a new boutique 68-unit hotel in Eugene, Oregon.

Joint venture to redevelop historic structure

Represented J & R Group in a joint venture for development of the Olympic Mills Commerce Center in Portland, Oregon, a 100,000-square-foot historic preservation and New Market Tax Credit conversion of an historic cereal mill into office space, including recapitalization and joint venture buyout.

Multiple joint ventures to acquire and develop apartment projects for Texas pension fund

Represented a Texas public employee pension fund in the formation of joint ventures to acquire and develop apartment and condominium properties in downtown Chicago, the Bahamas, the Upper West Side of Manhattan and College Station, Texas, and the restructuring of three retail projects in Hawaii.

Joint venture ownership of national apartment developer/operator

Represented an institutional investor in its acquisition from a state public employee pension fund of a 50 percent interest in one of the largest privately held developers and managers of market-rate and affordable multi-family housing projects in the United States, with apartment complexes in 13 states and total assets exceeding $3 billion.

Joint venture to acquire retail project on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile

Represented 50 percent owner in formation of a joint venture with a publicly traded retail REIT to acquire The Shops at North Bridge on the “Magnificent Mile” of North Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

Joint ventures for development of residential planned communities

Represented Linton Enterprises in joint ventures with residential developers creating planned communities in various locations in Oregon and Utah.

Multiple joint ventures for Alaska Native corporations

Represented Alaska Native corporations in the formation of a $100 million programmatic joint venture to acquire apartment projects in the Western United States, formation of a joint venture to develop and operate a shopping center in Anchorage, formation of a joint venture to develop a hotel in San Antonio, and the sale of a large tract of undeveloped property to the American Land Conservancy and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for preservation of the lands, including the formation of a public-private partnership for eventual transfer of the land to the State of Alaska park system, using funding from various sources including the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trust Fund.
