Davis Wright Tremaine Partner Co-Authors Treatise on Privacy Law

Today's Privacy Concerns Require an Understanding of Legal Obligations and Potential Liability

SEATTLE, JAN. 9, 2007 – Davis Wright Tremaine partner Charlene Brownlee recently co-authored a treatise entitled Privacy Law published by Law Journal Press, the imprint arm of leading integrated media company American Lawyer Media. The seven chapter book examines the impact of privacy laws, industry standards and consumer expectations regarding personal information across industries including health care, financial institutions, the workplace, international business, eCommerce and corporate transactions.

“Privacy violations can occur at any level in an organization and can have far-reaching consequences. To prepare, attorneys, IT staff, compliance officers and others within the organization require definitive and timely information on the latest privacy legal and business issues. Including both insightful analysis and practitioner-oriented guidance, Privacy Law is an essential reference. Updated twice a year, this book will continue to be a comprehensive source for privacy and security laws, emerging issues and compliance guidance,” said Brownlee.

Brownlee, who recently joined Davis Wright Tremaine’s privacy and security law practice group as a partner, focuses her practice on privacy, data security, eDiscovery and information management. She assists clients in identifying, evaluating and managing risks associated with privacy and information security practices, and conducts privacy and data protection assessments and information security policy audits. Brownlee also advises clients on and drafts and negotiates contractual agreements concerning technology acquisition, data uses, security and confidentiality, and develops records management programs, including policies, procedures, and retention schedules and training modules.

A participant in the Sedona Conference and a member of the eDiscovery Advisory Group of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators, Inc. (ARMA) and the International Associational of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), Brownlee has lectured and published widely in the areas of records and information management, eDiscovery, technology, and Internet law. Brownlee also contributes to the Davis Wright Tremaine Privacy & Security Law Blog.

Brownlee’s co-author is Blaze Waleski, senior counsel with the intellectual property group at Fullbright and Jaworski LLP.

The book, Privacy Law, as well as a detailed table of contents, is available for purchase at www.lawcatalog.com.
