| First year associates are provided with firm and office orientation upon arrival at DWT. Ongoing training and continuing legal education programs are conducted primarily through the individual practice groups, as well as through firm-wide training activities and on-line resources to facilitate professional and personal development.
Each fall, all first-year associates and new lateral associates are flown to Seattle for a two-day general orientation program. The program, designed to assist lawyers in getting started at DWT, provides an overview of firm management, associate policies, law firm economics, quality assurance issues, staff relations, time management, pro bono and civic work, and practice development. The orientation is a great opportunity to meet colleagues from other offices and to begin developing intra-firm relationships, as well as to learn about Davis Wright Tremaine.
Following the two-day orientation, first-year associates attend a week-long substantive training in basic litigation and corporate/business practice.
Ongoing attorney training and professional development is accomplished through a number of approaches, including in-house and external substantive skills training and hands-on training through client representation under supervision of an assigning attorney. |
