JUNE 6, 2017 – Barbara Kunkel, a highly accomplished information technology executive, has joined Davis Wright Tremaine as the firm’s chief information officer.
Ms. Kunkel has more than three decades of IT leadership experience. She most recently served 11 years as CIO for Troutman Sanders LLP, a 650-lawyer firm with 16 offices in the U.S. and Asia. Prior to that, she served 12 years as CIO for Nixon Peabody LLP, a 600-lawyer firm with 14 offices in the U.S.

While at Troutman Sanders, Ms. Kunkel was named the 2010 CIO of the Year by the Georgia CIO Leadership Association. During her time at Nixon Peabody, she received a Premier 100 IT Leaders Award from Computerworld and the Information Technology Woman of the Year Award from the Women’s Council of Rochester, New York, where she was based.
In addition to her achievements as a CIO, Ms. Kunkel has long been committed to supporting the career development of others and giving back to the community. Through her involvement in organizations such as Women in Technology and Year Up, Ms. Kunkel mentors and supports young women who have a passion for technology and business management. She was a contributor to the book, “Climb: Leading Women in Technology Share Their Journeys to Success,” published by Women in Technology, and currently serves on the board of TechBridge, an organization that brings affordable technology and business expertise to nonprofits.
