APRIL 19, 2018 – Janet Grumer, a partner in the employment services group of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, and Kelli Sager, a partner in the firm’s media and First Amendment practice group, have been recognized in the Los Angeles Business Journal as two of the city’s Most Influential Women Attorneys.

In a special section recognizing the 75 honorees, the Business Journal wrote that Ms. Grumer has “cultivated an impressive business and legal career” and provides “practical, real-world advice.” She is able to draw on her 20 years of experience as a business executive “to address the concerns of clients, including multiple-location retail, restaurants, movie theatres,” and others.

Grumer is distinguished by her “ability to blend the legal and practical to create workable solutions for clients,” the Journal wrote. Her practice focuses on employment law and public accommodations law under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“With a practice made up of half advice and half litigation, she is able to help her clients avoid litigation, and when that is not possible, she zealously defends them,” said the Journal. Her advice and counsel practice is aimed at sexual harassment prevention, investigations, terminations of employment, reductions in force, employee disciplinary actions, and creation of personnel policies. Grumer speaks frequently on preventing sexual harassment.

The Journal wrote of Ms. Sager that her “passion for defending free speech and press rights has defined her legal practice. For more than three decades, she has championed the First Amendment rights of the press and public, fought for transparency in government records and proceedings, and defended the rights of journalists and creative artists to pursue their professions. She is one of the nation’s top practitioners in a highly visible practice, which is partly why she has also been such a powerful role model for other women in the profession.”

The Journal noted that Ms. Sager “has represented some of the most prominent television and radio broadcasters, cable companies, motion picture producers and distributors, newspapers and magazines, book authors, internet companies, and web publishers, both at the trial and appellate level of federal and state courts. Her practice encompasses all areas of media and entertainment litigation, including defamation, privacy, idea submission claims, access, prior restraint, reporter’s shield laws, copyright and trademark law, and Internet law.”
