John McKay, former U.S. Attorney for Western Washington, has joined the Davis Wright Tremaine law firm, where he will lead its government investigations and crisis management group.

McKay, named US Attorney by President George Bush in 2001, was among nine such officials nationwide ousted in 2007 by Bush’s Attorney General, Alberto Gonzalez. A subsequent investigation concluded many of the firings were were politically motivated, though McKay’s case was inconclusive.

Since 2007 he has taught at Seattle University, worked on behalf of the State Department to promote rule of law in the Palestinian territories, and advocated for marijuana legalization, the firm said.
