Chevron will donate $5,000 in firm’s name to diversity pipeline program in San Francisco; Davis Wright to match donation for similar program in Arizona

SEATTLE, SEPT 21, 2011 – For the third consecutive year, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has been selected as a recipient of Chevron’s Law Firm Diversity Award. Established in 2005, the award recognizes three of Chevron’s nearly 40 law firm partners for their demonstrated commitment to diversity. The three firms were honored at a reception in Houston in late August.

In recognition of Davis Wright’s efforts, Chevron is making a $5,000 donation to a local non-profit legal organization of the firm’s choice. As in the past two years, Davis Wright has chosen Destination Law School, a diversity pipeline program with the San Francisco Bar Association. In addition, Davis Wright announced it will donate $5,000 to a diversity pipeline project run by the State Bar of Arizona.

“Davis Wright’s commitment to fostering a diverse workforce begins with ensuring that we provide equal opportunity to all of our lawyers and staff,” said Karen Russell, Davis Wright’s manager of diversity initiatives. “That effort continues by helping create a gateway for the diverse legal professionals of tomorrow. We are honored to partner with Chevron in this shared mission.”

Davis Wright was recognized by Chevron for its extensive efforts to coach and mentor diverse attorneys, including an innovative program with Microsoft that enables associates to learn more from the client perspective. The award committee also took note of Davis Wright’s support of diversity scholarships and high level of female leadership, among other factors.

Long recognized as a global leader in supporting diversity and fostering inclusion, Chevron has encouraged its business partners to join it in promoting principles and practices that allow all individuals to reach their full potential.

Last year, in honor of the Chevron award, Davis Wright donated $5,000 to the Los Angeles Metro Debate League, which supports debate teams in public schools. With the addition of Arizona this year, the firm now has relationships with pipeline programs or minority law student scholarship programs in four states.

“We are exploring ways to leverage this recognition from Chevron in the coming year,” said Russell. “We will be looking for new ways to reinforce these values internally and continue to build the pipeline.”
