PORTLAND, ORE., OCT. 10, 2011 – Phillip Grillo, an experienced and highly-regarded land use attorney, has joined Davis Wright Tremaine LLP as a partner in the firm’s Portland office.
Phil brings more than three decades of experience in land use planning, permitting and development to the firm. He represents a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional clients on major projects throughout the Northwest. He also served for many years as a land use hearings officer in various cities and counties in Oregon and Washington.
Grillo joins the existing team of attorneys practicing land use law at Davis Wright in Portland, including partners Steve LeDoux and Gene Grant, and associate Mike Gelardi.
“Land-use issues touch on a wide range of our clients,” said Carol Bernick, partner-in-charge at DWT’s Portland office. “Phil’s extensive knowledge of the complex regulatory landscape in the Northwest will benefit them tremendously.”
Among Grillo’s most prominent clients in recent years has been the Working Waterfront Coalition, a group of businesses responding to an effort by the city of Portland to amend development regulations along the North Reach of the Willamette River. Grillo successfully appealed the city’s plan and was given an award this year for superior service to the business community at the annual meeting of the Portland Business Alliance.

A guitarist and lover of the blues, Grillo earned his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School and his B.A. from Michigan State University. He is admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington.
