Christopher Avery, CIPP/US, helps clients of all sizes navigate and implement a broad range of privacy and information security requirements. From privacy-by-design to the development of an internal privacy program, Christopher works with in-house counsel, technologists, and other business leaders to evaluate and address privacy and security issues with a pragmatic and risk-based approach. He advises clients on privacy and information security laws, regulations, and requirements pertaining to consumer privacy, employee privacy, data security, and cybersecurity. As a former in-house counsel at a large communications company, Christopher draws on more than a decade of experience to provide in-house counsel actionable advice that allows their clients to keep up with the pace of business.

Translating privacy into practices

Guides in-house counsel and business leaders in decoding the myriad of applicable privacy requirements so that they can understand how these requirements will impact their businesses and products. Leveraging a near decade of in-house experience, Chris works alongside business teams to help in-house counsel deliver practical guidance that empowers their client’s business objectives.

Moving your business forward

From product design to contractual relationships, Chris works closely with his in-house counterparts so that they can help their business clients’ succeed. Chris supports his clients in proactively identifying and resolving potential privacy and security issues before they derail business priorities.

Crisis counseling

Helps companies prepare for, respond to, and recover from privacy and information security incidents, including coordinating related activities with federal, state and local law enforcement. Chris is an incident leader on DWT’s Incident Response Team and can provide guidance and assistance at a moment’s notice. This team approach ensures that clients have the right and experienced legal advisor for their particular incidents.
