Vivian Wu focuses on her clients' patent portfolios, specializing in electrical engineering, software, medical devices, and healthcare informatics. She matches technical knowledge with strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to draft, review, and file patent applications in order to deliver results for clients.

Vivian has experience conducting due diligence investigations, patentability and validity assessments, and freedom-to-operate analysis for IP rights. She is proficient in completing patent searches in a variety of areas, including: healthcare, telecommunications, semiconductors, circuits, security devices, video games, and bio-sensors. She also has experience with international searches using the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) system.

As an examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Vivian reviewed patent applications in healthcare informatics – an emerging field combining medical recordkeeping and diagnostics with communications technology, machine learning, and AI to process health data in ways intended to improve diagnoses and streamline medical billing. Outside of the USPTO, Vivian has conducted market research for biomedical devices and overseen modeling, simulation, and laboratory testing for novel devices using various processes, including ultrasound, imaging, and EEG (testing that measures the brain's electrical activity using electrodes).

Vivian has extensive hands-on training in three disciplines of engineering: electrical (semiconductors, wireless communication, image processing, computer architecture, artificial intelligence), mechanical (microfabrication, solid-state technology, computer-aided design), and biomedical (medical imaging, instrumentation, bio- and organic chemistry, micro- and cell biology, human anatomy). In 2013, she taught a System Dynamics course at Seattle Pacific University.
