OCTOBER 5, 2020Peter Anderson, who secured a game-changing copyright win for Led Zeppelin at the 9th Circuit earlier this year, was named a 2020 MVP of the Year in Media & Entertainment by the editors of Law360.

Anderson, a partner in the firm's Los Angeles office, is the fifth Davis Wright Tremaine media lawyer in a row to win the MVP recognition.

Prevailing in what was unquestionably the music industry's most closely watched copyright case of the year, Anderson defeated a challenge to the iconic track, "Stairway to Heaven." The decision established requirements for music copyright claims in the future and jettisoned a decades-old rule for assessing those claims that was unfair to defendants in the digital age.

Within days of the decision, it was cited by district courts in two other multimillion-dollar music copyright actions. The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined plaintiffs' petition to review the ruling.

Anderson also successfully defended copyright cases lodged against clients including The Weeknd, Gwen Stefani, and Pharrell Williams.

Earlier this year, Anderson was named to Billboard magazine's 2020 list of Top Music Lawyers.
