JAN. 28, 2021 – Davis Wright Tremaine has received a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2021 Corporate Equality Index, recognizing the firm as one of the country's "Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality" for the eighth consecutive year.
The Corporate Equality Index is recognized as the premiere benchmarking tool for LGBTQ workplace equality in the U.S. and has incorporated increasingly stringent criteria for achieving a perfect score.
The rating criteria have four key pillars:
- Non-discrimination policies across business entities;
- Equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families;
- Supporting an inclusive culture; and
- Corporate social responsibility.
This past year, Davis Wright Tremaine announced a new policy and best practices for gender inclusivity, including information for employees who are in the process of a gender transition and best steps for managers on how to support them and their teams throughout the process. The firm also updated its human resources database to allow attorneys and staff to identify their gender pronouns and to ensure that the gender identity of new hires is respected immediately upon their arrival.
Davis Wright Tremaine's inclusion efforts include an active LGBTQ+ affinity group, which provides support, mentoring, and networking opportunities. The group's mission is to create and maintain a work environment that values and acknowledges the talents and contributions of LGBTQ+ attorneys and allows them to express their full identities. The group has remained active via virtual connections throughout the recent pandemic. The firm recently expanded on this success with the launch of an LGBTQ+ employee resource group for staff.
Davis Wright Tremaine has been widely recognized for its commitment to diversity. Recent accolades include the 2020 Equity Award for Community Philanthropy from the Seattle-based Pride Foundation. The firm recently expanded its C-suite to include a chief diversity and inclusion officer.
