JANUARY 20, 2025 – For the ninth time in ten years, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP's renowned media and entertainment team has been recognized as a Law360 Practice Group of the Year.
The team was honored for its strong record of litigation wins for leading clients across the industry. The wins, during the 12 months ending October 31, 2025, included successful copyright defense of the longest-running number 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 (Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You") and repelling breach-of-contract and other claims lodged against Tom Cruise's highest-grossing movie ("Top Gun: Maverick").
Clients for whom the DWT team secured major victories also included recording artists Cardi B and Lil Nas X; cable networks Showtime, MSNBC, and CNN; production studios Paramount and Lionsgate; music labels Sony and Universal; book publishers Hachette and Simon & Schuster; news organizations Vox Media and The New York Times; reporter Bob Woodward; director M. Night Shyamalan; and comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
The team was also recognized for its high-impact work representing the social media and technology industry in free speech matters that are critical to their business. On behalf of NetChoice—whose members include Amazon, Netflix, and YouTube—the team secured a preliminary injunction halting California's Age-Appropriate Design Code Act, an unconstitutional Internet censorship law.
