OCT. 27, 2026 — The 2026 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America Awards shortlisted Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in the category of Responsible Business for its role in developing and launching the Scam Justice Legal Clinic, a first-of-its-kind pro bono program serving survivors of online fraud.

The clinic was created by DWT in partnership with Amazon, the Better Business Bureau Institute for Marketplace Trust, and the Pro Bono Institute to address a gap in legal support for survivors. Staffed by trained volunteer attorneys, the clinic offers limited-scope legal advice, helping clients understand their rights, take action, and protect themselves after being scammed.

Each partner brings a distinct strength to the clinic: BBB Institute's direct access to scam reports and victims, PBI's ability to mobilize pro bono networks, Amazon's in-house legal talent and cybercrime knowledge, and DWT's pro bono infrastructure and subject-matter expertise.

Through August of this year, SJLC held 57 clinics, served 150 clients in 38 states, and donated 255 attorney hours in clinic consultations.

"Behind every scam is a person whose trust has been exploited and who may have no idea where to turn next," said Joanna Plichta Boisen, chief pro bono and social impact officer at DWT. "This clinic was built to meet people in that moment with legal help, compassion, and a clear path forward—that is pro bono at its most powerful."

Winners of the FT awards will be announced in December.
