First Amendment lawyers Tom Burke, DWT partner, and Karl Olson put on a training session covering the ins and outs of defending journalists who are subpoenaed for their confidential sources or notes.

The seminar was designed for lawyers interested in handling the defense of subpoenaed journalists, and covered:

  • The typical subpoenas that journalists receive in state and federal court proceedings in California
  • The state’s shield law and case law
  • Strategy tips for successfully representing journalists who are subpoenaed to produce and/or testify about unpublished information, including confidential sources
