In the highly regulated space of health information privacy and security, it's important to keep up to date on policy developments and enforcement action trends. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights is responsible for the enforcement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and has been increasingly active in recent years. A number of new OCR initiatives have been launched, and the results of "desk audits" have now been tabulated and made public. Additionally, state attorneys general offices have reached settlements of substantial amounts in the last two years, sending a shot across the bow of organizations processing sensitive and personal health information.

This webinar is an in-depth review and report out on these trends and more, from a leading Washington-based health information privacy legal expert, DWT partner Adam Greene, and a senior manager from a large West Coast-based health care provider. Both have experience working within HHS and share those insights and perspectives on the program.

Topics include:

  • Recent OCR policy initiatives.
  • OCR enforcement trends and their implications.
  • A review and analysis of recent OCR desk audits.
  • State attorneys general settlements from 2017 and 2018.
  • State breach notification law trends.
  • Developments in related class action litigation.
