The last time the Family Business Legacy Series featured Mike and his family was in 2014. Since then, Saltchuk has grown into one of the largest family-owned business in the state of Washington. Today it is a diversified transportation, marine services, and energy distribution business with more than 30 operating companies, 10,000 employees, and $5.5 billion in annual revenue. Mike is also a founding partner of the law firm Garvey, Schubert and Barer (now Foster Garvey). He has been a significant owner of and investor in well-known local companies such as Ste. Michelle Winery and K2.

He has led his family business by example, passing ownership to his daughters and management to his sons-in-law. Mike is one of the great voices of Northwest family enterprise.

Mike has been quoted as saying that his golden rule of company management is to run the business in a way you would be proud to have your children work in. That idea came through clearly in the conversation. Whether your family enterprise is in its first generation or its fourth, we think you will find his insights practical and inspiring.

We are grateful to Mike for his generosity and candor. Please feel free to share the recording with family members and colleagues who may benefit from it. We look forward to seeing you at future programs in the series.
