Scott Adams is a partner in the Seattle office of Davis Wright Tremaine and co-chair of the firm's patent practice. He advises companies and investors on the strategic development, evaluation, and monetization of intellectual property, with a particular focus on patents in advanced technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, accelerator hardware, cloud computing infrastructure, and information security.

Scott's practice sits at the intersection of IP strategy and business execution. He helps clients align patent portfolios with product roadmaps, compute architectures, and data strategies—ensuring that core innovations in areas such as machine learning systems, distributed computing, specialized processors, and security frameworks are effectively protected and leveraged. His work frequently involves technologies spanning AI model architectures, GPU/ASIC accelerator design, cloud-scale systems, and cryptographic and cybersecurity solutions.

He regularly advises on IP issues arising in venture financings, technology investments, and strategic transactions, providing rigorous assessments of risk, freedom to operate, and portfolio strength. Scott is particularly experienced in evaluating IP in fast-moving technical environments, where architectural decisions and standards evolution can materially impact patent value.

Scott delivers pragmatic, business-oriented guidance focused on building defensible, high-value portfolios that support fundraising, deter competitors, and enhance exit outcomes. His experience spans portfolio structuring, diligence, and lifecycle management, including continuation strategy, claim scope optimization, and global filing considerations.
