Katherine L. Jeffrey
Counsel
Katie advises charitable donors and tax-exempt organizations on legal and strategic matters critical to advancing their missions. Her practice encompasses counseling public charities, private foundations, and other nonprofit entities through all stages of the tax-exempt lifecycle—from formation and securing tax-exempt status to ongoing tax and regulatory compliance. She advises clients on grantmaking programs, advocacy efforts, and other programmatic activities.
Katie also supports nonprofit organizations with their corporate governance and operational needs, including board management, policy development, and risk mitigation. She has significant experience advising on complex nonprofit transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, dissolutions, joint ventures, reorganizations, and fiscal sponsorship arrangements.
In addition to her nonprofit work, Katie counsels individual clients on estate planning and tax matters. She designs and implements tailored estate plans using wills, trusts, charitable giving vehicles, and other wealth transfer strategies. Her practice includes advising on intra-family business succession, handling trust and estate administrations, and guiding clients through probate proceedings. Katie also represents individuals in IRS audits of estate and gift tax returns and provides counsel on income tax planning.
