Greg Plichta
Of Counsel
Greg Plichta advises clients on the development, protection, and commercialization of technology across software, cloud infrastructure, hardware, data, and AI-driven systems. His work includes developing and managing large patent portfolios, shaping global IP strategy, advising on patent and copyright concepts in complex commercial and transactional matters, and guiding open-source policy and compliance. He regularly partners with engineering, product, and business teams to identify protectable innovations, manage patent prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement, and align IP decisions with broader technology and business priorities.
In leadership roles, Greg has overseen global patent portfolios numbering in the thousands of assets, managed extensive networks of outside counsel, and supported large-scale innovation programs involving thousands of inventors. He has directed portfolio evaluation, monetization, and enforcement efforts, and has helped design and deploy AI-based tools to improve invention selection and patent review at scale. Earlier in his career, he worked on building and securing patent assets, negotiating licensing arrangements, supporting litigation strategy, and providing freedom-to-operate and related analyses.
Greg holds a J.D. and multiple undergraduate degrees from the University of Washington, including electrical engineering and philosophy with distinction. He has served in a number of professional leadership and volunteer roles within the patent and IP community, including statewide and local bar organizations.
