Benjamin Hartman Rieland leverages his experience as a former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to help clients develop their patent portfolios and realize value from their IP, particularly in the artificial intelligence and machine learning space.
Ben's specialty is in researching technologies and analyzing applications for compliance with legal obligations, cost considerations, and other issues that arise during the patent process. At the USPTO, Ben handled AI and computer algorithm applications. He previously worked as a university research assistant, developing ML algorithms and preparing and processing datasets of neurological and biofeedback signals, using Matlab classification learners, Python, and other programming languages. He also collaborated with the National Institutes of Health for research and data use. He has extensive experience creating, training, testing, and evaluating ML models and their effectiveness.
