JULY 20, 2012 — Kelli L. Sager and Alonzo Wickers IV, partners in the Los Angeles office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, have been named "Power Lawyers" by entertainment publication, "The Hollywood Reporter."
"The Hollywood Reporter's" list of "the top 100 entertainment attorneys in America" was compiled through research on deals closed, cases won, and clients signed. Nominees were evaluated against their peers in four categories: talent dealmakers, corporate dealmakers, "troubleshooters" (divorce or criminal matters), and litigators—which includes Sager and Wickers.
Sager, who has been recognized every year since the inaugural list in 2007, was called "the best-known First Amendment advocate on the West Coast." The publication cited her successful work representing longtime client the "Los Angeles Times" and other media organizations in seeking access to the California legislature’s internal budgeting documents. She was also noted for her work with clients such as Conde Nast, A&E Television, and Discovery Communications.
Wickers, who is appearing on the list for the second year, was described as "the First Amendment specialist for such boundary-pushing TV networks as Comedy Central, Showtime and HBO." The publication noted his successful defense of "South Park" in a high-profile copyright infringement claim, which was recently dismissed by the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeal, and his ongoing defense of Lionsgate in a right-of-publicity suit filed by actor Jesse Eisenberg for the appearance of his image on a DVD cover.
