OCT. 8, 2024 – Cheryl Wei, a versatile transactions attorney serving the entertainment industry, has been named to the Daily Journal's 2024 list of Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 in California.
Wei, a partner in the Los Angeles office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, is a trusted adviser to studios, production companies, networks, streamers, financiers, and other players in the entertainment, media, and technology industries. Her diverse clients, including nonprofits, rely on her to guide and advocate for them in all stages of entertainment transactions.
In honoring Wei, the Daily Journal particularly highlighted her role as production counsel for "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" and Netflix's 2024 comedy special "Woke Folk," as well as her representation of Legendary Pictures on motion picture rights acquisition and producer deals for the 1988 bestselling novel, "The Alchemist."
Wei is committed to promoting inclusion. She serves on the on the board of the Center for Asian American Media and is a co-founder and co-chair of "RiseTogether," a DWT initiative promoting the elevation of women in business and legal affairs in the media and entertainment industry. She serves on the hiring committee for the firm's L.A. office as well as the DEI committee of DWT's nationally renowned media, entertainment, patent, trademark, and advertising practice group.
Wei received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and her J.D. from the University of California, Davis.
