OCTOBER 9, 2015 – The Portland office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP has been honored by the Multnomah Bar Association (MBA) for raising the most money of any law firm this year for a vital courthouse daycare service.

The service, called "CourtCare," "is hugely important and used frequently by parents in family law disputes or women seeking domestic violence restraining orders," said Eric Dahlin, partner in Davis Wright Tremaine’s Portland office. "Without this service, these individuals would be forced to bring their kids into the hearings, which can be traumatic to children and disruptive to the court.”

While the program receives some public funding, it depends primarily on the financial support of the legal community. This week, DWT was officially announced as the winner of the MBA’s “CourtCare Proudest Pride” trophy for its fundraising efforts by attorneys and staff, which resulted in a donation of over $9,000. This is the seventh consecutive year that DWT was the program’s largest law firm donor and was honored with the award.

"We are extremely proud to help support CourtCare," said Bill Miner, partner-in-charge at DWT’s Portland office. "Its essential services help ensure that parents have a safe, convenient place to leave their children and that families have access to the justice system."

CourtCare is operated by Volunteers of America Oregon and serves 80 to 100 children and their families each month, serving over 12,700 since opening in December 2001. The program is located at the downtown Multnomah County Courthouse and the East County Courthouse.
