OCT. 3, 2023Adam Sieff, a 34-year-old media and constitutional litigator in the Los Angeles office of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, has been named to The Recorder's 2023 list of Lawyers on the Fast Track.

The list, part of the annual California Legal Awards from American Lawyer Media, recognizes under-40 attorneys who represent "the next generation of legal leaders."

Sieff's practice focuses on representation of internet, digital media, and technology clients in First Amendment, Section 230, copyright, trademark, antitrust, and related litigation, including challenges to state and federal laws.

He was recently one of three Davis Wright attorneys named Litigators of the Week by The American Lawyer for securing a preliminary injunction against California's first-of-its-kind internet censorship law, the Age-Appropriate Design Code Act. Sieff is also a key player in Davis Wright's current challenge, on behalf of content creators, to the state of Montana's blanket ban on TikTok.

"Less than a decade into his career, Adam is already a sought-after authority on emerging issues in the regulation and restraint of online speech," said Camilo Echavarria, Los Angeles partner-in-charge at Davis Wright. "Through his defense of speech rights, Adam is helping protect not only the business model of some of our largest, most innovative clients, but First Amendment principles that are essential to our democracy."

"By any measure, Adam is on the fast track," said Rob Maguire, co-chair of Davis Wright's national litigation practice. "He is widely respected by clients and colleagues for his gifts as a writer, legal mind, and oral advocate. He also has a knack for finding and advancing opportunities that are aligned with the firm's values, brand, and strategic-growth priorities."

Community service is a driving force in every aspect of Sieff's work. He has worked relentlessly to expand access to legal services, make government more responsive, protect voting rights, and advance civil liberties and equal justice.

For example, he is currently lead counsel for several community organizations in a consolidated, pro bono voting rights lawsuit, in partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, and NAACP-LDF, challenging restrictions enacted by the state of Georgia that disenfranchise voters of color. He is also outside First Amendment and media counsel to Mayday Health, a nonprofit online publisher that campaigns to spread awareness about reproductive health and abortion services, including in jurisdictions where those services have been criminalized.

"Adam's devotion to representing in-need communities and advancing causes that need advocacy the most is extraordinary ," said Joanna Plichta Boisen, chief pro bono and social impact officer at Davis Wright. "He consistently takes on complex and sophisticated pro bono matters that improve fairness and equity in the law and that balance the scales of justice for all, not just those who can afford it. We're grateful for every hour Adam puts in to giving back."

Sieff's community contributions extend to civic, political, and policy leadership as well. He serves on the board of the Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California, Bet Tzedek's New Leadership Council, and Jewish World Watch. He also co-chairs a chapter of the good-government, nonpartisan, political action organization, Govern for California, which raises money to support reform-minded candidates to the California state legislature. He is also president of Silver Lake Forward, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding park space and community space throughout Los Angeles.

Sieff received his J.D. from Stanford Law School and his A.B., summa cum laude, from Columbia University. He is a lecturer in law and adjunct professor at the USC Gould School of Law, where he teaches a course on the First Amendment, constitutional law, and the federal courts.
