AUGUST 6, 2025 – Davis Wright Tremaine LLP and Amazon, which have partnered on a litigation campaign targeting fake-review brokers, recently secured their largest victory to date. The team prevailed in a major lawsuit against the operators of an illicit network that marketed the sale of fake product reviews and fraudulent Amazon seller accounts.

In a recent decision, a King County Superior Court judge ordered the transfer to Amazon of more than 75 fraudulent website domains, representing Amazon's most extensive website seizure action to date.

Through the websites, the defendants advertised the sale of fake five-star reviews to bad actors operating Amazon selling accounts. The defendants used fraudulent Amazon customer accounts to purchase the bad actors' products and post fake reviews on the bad actors' Amazon listing pages, in an attempt to create the appearance of authentic transactions. The defendants also offered to post fake negative reviews on competitors' products. In addition, the defendants attempted to sell fraudulent Amazon seller accounts with fake documentation to previously suspended sellers.

"We have no tolerance for bad actors who attempt to undermine the integrity of our store and the authentic experiences of our customers," said Claire O'Donnell, Amazon's Vice President of Selling Partner Trust & Store Integrity. "This legal victory represents another step in our ongoing efforts to protect customers from fake reviews."

A DWT team led by Los Angeles partner Scott Commerson serves as principal outside litigation counsel for Amazon's review integrity initiative and has filed dozens of lawsuits over the last three years, seeking both damages and injunctive relief. The lawsuits are part of Amazon's comprehensive approach to combat fake reviews, which also includes advanced detection systems that help maintain a trustworthy shopping experience by preventing fake content from misleading customers.

"The impact of this legal victory extends beyond Amazon's stores," said Commerson. "The defendants in this case targeted businesses across various industries, including retail, social media, travel, real estate, and payment providers. By shutting down this fraud network, Amazon has helped protect businesses of all sizes from deceptive practices that harm both companies and consumers."

To date, Amazon has successfully deactivated more than 150 websites that attempted to sell fake review and fake content services targeting Amazon and other companies.
