All facilities-based broadband providers are required to report semi-annually (March 1 and September 1) to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding their broadband service offerings and types of customers. Reporting entities include all wired and wireless broadband providers, such as cable operators, telecommunications and non-reseller commercial mobile radio service providers. The report is made on FCC Form 477 and the next filing is due on March 1, 2007. The FCC has posted the form on the following website: http://www.fcc.gov/formpage.html#477.

The Commission publishes the information collected on Form 477 twice each year. On Feb. 1, 2007, the FCC released its most recent report compiled from the last Form 477 data submissions made on Sept. 1, 2006 (reflecting June 30, 2006 data). The February 1 report shows that high speed connections (defined as connections exceeding 200 kbps) increased 26 percent during the first half of 2006 from 51.2 million to 64.6 million lines. The February 1 report includes state-by-state and other demographic information on broadband deployment. A full copy of the report can be downloaded from the FCC’s website: http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-270128A1.pdf
