The law of marriage has become one of the most important civil rights issues of our time and is being shaped (and then re-shaped) by state courts, state legislatures, federal courts, Congress and citizen ballot initiatives in many states. Lawyers from Lambda Legal in Los Angeles and from the Seattle and New York offices of Davis Wright Tremaine who have been involved in some of the leading cases, presented recent legal developments and analyzed ongoing litigation over the right to marry, as well as disputes over First Amendment freedoms and federalism that same-sex marriage battles have generated.
