"SEC Commissioner Does Not Anticipate Formally Introducing Direct Cryptocurrency Regulation This Year," Blockchain Law Center
On February 3, 2022, during an exclusive interview with Yahoo Finance, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce acknowledged that the SEC has not established workable rules for cryptocurrency exchanges as they currently operate and noted that she has yet to see any formal, direct proposals for regulating cryptocurrency exchanges or cryptocurrency in general on the SEC's agenda this year. After sharing her view that the SEC should establish cryptocurrency frameworks based upon the SEC's rulebook and existing statutory authority, Peirce remarked, "I just don't see it on the horizon based on what's in the regulatory agenda. And that leads me to fear that a lot of this work is going to be done through enforcement."
