OCT. 3, 2022 – The national energy industry team at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is pleased to welcome Jon Trotta as a partner in Washington, D.C. His arrival increases the depth and breadth of the firm's gas and electric regulatory and transactional capabilities.

Trotta joins the firm from Stinson LLP, where he spent a dozen years representing gas and electric utilities, industry trade associations, renewable project developers, and transportation industry clients in transactional matters and regulatory proceedings. He previously served for several years as a regulatory attorney-advisor at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

"Jon is extraordinarily adept at helping clients understand, and successfully navigate, federal rules and regulations and their business implications," said Vidhya Prabhakaran, co-chair of Davis Wright's energy practice group. "His skills, experience, and collaborative style make him a great strategic fit for us and he'll be a strong future leader as we continue to grow out our national practice."

Trotta will partner with Davis Wright's Barbara Jost, a well-known, veteran gas attorney, to expand the firm's substantial work advocating for gas clients before FERC, other regulatory agencies, and the courts.

"The energy industry is rapidly evolving," said Trotta, "and natural gas has proven itself to be a critical bridge fuel to a reliable grid, both at home and abroad. Davis Wright has a highly sophisticated energy practice that for years has been a trusted advisor to the gas industry. That leadership, together with the firm's proven track record of supporting and elevating younger partners, made Davis Wright a compelling choice for the next chapter of my career. I'm very excited to join Vid, Barbara, and the rest of the team."

Over the course of his career, Trotta has advised clients on a wide range of issues affecting the energy industry, including those involving gas pipeline rates and certifications, electric transmission, renewable resource interconnection, wholesale power market rules and operations, electric reliability, and critical infrastructure cybersecurity. He has experience representing shippers in complex litigated gas pipeline rate proceedings before FERC and building coalitions among key customer groups and shippers.

In addition to his regulatory and litigation practice, Trotta advises clients throughout the project development and deal-making process, and has experience negotiating sophisticated commercial agreements on behalf of renewable natural gas (RNG) developers, wind and solar developers, and utilities. Among other things, he has negotiated power purchase and other commodity offtake agreements, gas and electric interconnect and storage agreements, and asset management agreements.

Trotta received his B.A. from Villanova University and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. While in law school, he served as a law clerk with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications & Energy (now the Department of Public Utilities).
