MAY 7, 2025Cydney Swofford Freeman, a litigator and counselor to leading media and entertainment clients, has been named to The Recorder's 2025 list of Lawyers on the Fast Track.

The list, part of the annual California Legal Awards from American Lawyer Media, recognizes under-40 attorneys who represent "the next generation of legal leaders."

Freeman, a partner in DWT's Los Angeles office, litigates media, First Amendment, and entertainment issues, and provides pre-broadcast counseling on documentaries, television series, films, books, podcasts, journalism, and other content. She has particular experience advising creators of scripted projects inspired by, or based on, true stories and/or involving real people, including highly creative works mixing fact with fiction.

Freeman's recent successes include helping obtain a jury verdict in favor of all defendants in a copyright suit arising from a TV series and helping win dismissal of a copyright claim lodged against the show "Yellowjackets."

Freeman received her J.D. from New York University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the co-chair of RiseTogether, a DWT initiative bringing together women in entertainment and media law. Law360 previously honored her as a Rising Star in media and entertainment.
