JUNE 22, 2026 – A King County, Wash., Superior Court judge has granted a permanent injunction and awarded monetary relief against the operator of a large-scale enterprise trading in fake online reviews.

In a first-of-its-kind joint litigation, Amazon and the Better Business Bureau, represented by Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, won an order that enjoins the defendant from engaging in the continued sale and brokering of fake reviews and awards plaintiffs' attorneys' fees. The court further ordered that the defendant's website domains be disabled and transferred to plaintiffs.

As established in the complaint, the defendant operated a string of websites that sold fake product reviews to boost bad actors' product listing pages in Amazon's store and bad actors' business profile pages on BBB's website. Both Amazon and BBB strictly prohibit any attempt to manipulate reviews and expressly prohibit compensated reviews.

Amazon has collaborated with DWT on a yearslong litigation campaign targeting fake-review brokers, which has secured important wins including the takedown of more than 75 fake review websites in a single case. The case with BBB marks Amazon's first-ever joint lawsuit as part of this initiative. Amazon was joined in this litigation by the International Association of Better Business Bureaus, Inc., and the Better Business Bureau Great West & Pacific, Inc.

The DWT attorneys who achieved this win for Amazon and BBB included Scott Commerson, Eric Franz, Emma Englund, and Michael Drell.
