MARCH 11, 2020 – A $1 billion jury verdict obtained by Davis Wright Tremaine litigators against the state of Oregon was recognized by Benchmark Litigation with an "Impact Case of the Year" award.

A team led by John DiLorenzo won the case in November 2019 on behalf of 150 rural counties and local taxing districts, who, the jury found, had been deprived of decades of timber revenue that was owed them by the state.

Davis Wright Tremaine was recognized, along with all the winners of Benchmark Litigation's second annual West Coast awards, at a gala dinner last week at the St. Regis in San Francisco.

In addition to DiLorenzo, Davis Wright Tremaine's trial team in the case (County of Linn v. State of Oregon) included John McGrory, Aaron Stuckey, Chris Swift, Alicia LeDuc, Erika Buck, Malinda Quirante, and Allison Bainter.

The trial lasted a month and the jury took just five hours to return the largest-ever legal award against the state of Oregon. A state circuit court judge recently rejected the defendants' motions for judgment notwithstanding the verdict and for a new trial.
